The Work Won’t Find You

THE WORK WON’T FIND YOU

Tips for Job Seekers Part 2

Bodyguard Careers recently posted a story for Job Seekers.

I would like to encourage readers to be creative in their pursuit of employment. Remember, you may need to start with the lower-paying work and build up to the high-paying gigs. Experience in a real-world setting is valuable, and a must-have on your resume, in addition to your training.

Here is an idea that might help you to get the ball rolling:

Did you know that there has been a rise in crime perpetrated on realtors who are alone showing homes? Real estate companies increasingly are seeking protection specialists or bodyguards to deter would-be criminals from harming their agents. What if you were proactive and contacted a real-estate company to see if they would be interested in working with you–and offer a rate that works with their budget! This is a great way to get your foot in the door doing bodyguard work, and build your resume.

Choosing an Executive Protection Firm

Hiring the right people to protect you can be a matter of life or death.337px_Nc3.jpg
The basic principle in hiring a bodyguard or a personal protection team is to make the principal a hard target. Recently Susan Karlin from Portfolio.com did and interview with Elijah Shaw of Icon Services. Elijah correctly points out that military and police experience doesn’t necessarily make one qualified in Executive Protection; additional training is necessary. Elijah is correct with his analysis.

Here’s a quick list of what criteria and qualifications to follow when choosing a private protection firm. Following these steps can help you to make the right decisions:

1. Identify what your executive protection needs are. Which individuals in your organization are at risk? What are the risks to your organization – is there a potential for kidnapping, do high ranking officers of the company go to dangerous places or interact extensively with the media? By taking the time to identify what your executive protection needs are, you can better choose the right professionals to perform those services.

2. Recognize that executive protection is not about muscled bodyguards as much as it is about having a plan in place for dealing with threats should they arise. Someone who offers executive protection is likely to have a keen eye for detail and to notice any indication that something could go awry.

3. Ensure that the staff of the company who will benefit from executive protection recognize that the service is meant to keep them safe; if your staff do not know and understand the risk, they will not work well with the members of the executive protection team.

4. Set limits so that the staff members to whom executive protection are assigned do not feel as though their personal space is being invaded; choose a protection system that will still allow them to feel as though they can leave work at the office.

5. Take the time to research your options and interview more than one person when you plan to hire executive protection. It’s important to know that you’re hiring the right people for the job.

Survey Evaluating Security Contractors

Hello group I am posting this for a young man who is working on his Doctorate

Hucky

Dear fellow contractors. My name is Dorian Amstel I am a former security contractor with Blackwater and a former Special Agent with the DSS. I am currently writing my dissertation for my Doctorate and have decided to study the job satisfaction levels of security contractors. I kindly ask that you take 15 minutes of your time to fill out the online survey which is attached to the link below. All answers are confidential and the surveys are completely anonymous. For each survey filled out I will donate $50 to either the Gregory Wright Memorial Fund or the Memorial Fund established for the families of the March 31, 2004 Fallujah attack, you will be given a choice as to which Fund you wish to designate. Please only complete the survey once, but feel free to forward it to any contractor you know.

15 minutes of your time will help a couple of worthy causes.

Update: 11/12/07

Hucky, thanks for posting the survey.  I appreciate the help and time it took to do so.  The survey is now closed due to the overwhelming response rate of 290 people over the week end.  I will be sending an email with the total $ value raised for each cause.  As of now the link is disabled.
Thank you again
