Other sources of EP training in your neighborhood might be found through your home state's peace officer training academies. Some states allow civilian private security personnel to take classes as long as students meet certain background requirements and are taking training relevant to their occupations. I can't speak for the consistency of training throughout the country, but can tell you that Ohio's features a 1.8 mile track with wet and dry skid pads, indoor and outdoor firing ranges and "smart" classrooms. We have programmable driving simulators so that students prepare for and practice ambushes in the lab before they trade paint on the track. The OPOTA program is divided into a 40-hr Level I and 40-hr Level II blocks so that departments don't have to send personnel for two weeks at a time...you can take the basic unit this year and the advanced next year etc. We have over 2.5 gig of animated powerpoints and videos to ensure that students don't lose interest through incessant lecture. Other states may have comparable or even superior programs, so it might be worth a phone call to see what is available where you live.

FLETC used to have online training (DLP) available for EP and Special Events topics, but I think that program ended in September this year. I'm not sure if they will be replacing it (or have already). Also, if you are reserve or active duty military personnel, you can ask your CO about taking correspondence classes (free for troops) that better prepare you for a wide variety of EP courses. FM19-10 (1987) has an EP component, as does, FC19-136...it's been a long time since I wore a uniform, so I'm not sure what's out there on MIL servers.

Good luck, and have fun!!

In response to Tommy, I too registered with RLC Enterprises. After numerous calls and email I still haven't heard anything positive from them or have they come across with anything they said they would do. I have request the return of my funds and I am still waiting. It has been approximately 3 month since I first signed up with them. I also notice that in the Bodyguard career job site 7 out of eight job posting are from RLC, all presented in a different way.

Very true and well put articale Harlan. And as well as all the comment and input this far. Continuing one education in this industry is a wise investment in one owns career. And surely put you one step ahead or father then the next guy who choose not to.

And yes, there for too many scams out there concerning EP'S and bodygurding. I have ran across a few in my time. Thank goodness for an ivestigation background. I as always do my leg work as we. And expose the scam and reported it to the proper athorities. And it was high tech and major. Not trying to toot my own horn(here) just sharing some information to anyone who are trying to get into the business, and those of us that are.

Just be aware stay forus and stay alert. I agree with Harlan and all who are aware of this issue on both great points he made. Good schools and training. Plus, scams.

respectfully to all,

To answer Tommys question. The company you are asking about in TN has a very poor record and is listed in the TN BBB with a satisfaction score of F.

Check the TN BBB yourself and see what it states. This company has changed names several times and has gone under investigation for false advertising. Please everyone, practice due diligence when looking at training or working with and EP provider.

This website is a great resource for gaining information in the industry.

Be safe everyone.

ANY school, company, group, etc, that asks you to pay up front for work, send you to a "boot camp" at some point in the future, should be looked at with alarm.

Make sure you do your research before wasting money on a fly by night, thursday afternoon "body guard" school.

And and small but important point. EP/PSD professionals are NOT body guards. Body guards are untrained hacks who have no skills nor abilities and rely on brute strength to do a job. Look at the rappers, rock stars, et al and then at the executives and money makers and see who has a detail or a mob.

EP/PSD professionals are highly trained, vetted, mature, and educated men and women.

Due diligance when looking for schools is the key.

Jeff, I'm not going to badmouth other organizations. But I will tell you that, the following organizations are not listed in my e-book. As with anything, I would encourage everyone to do their due diligence, when it comes to picking an EP course.

Just purchased the e-book. It is excellent! Thanks for putting this information out to people like me attempting to break into this career field.

Also, thanks for responding to my e-mail, it means a lot that you take time to answer your e-mails.

Hucky
Your recommendation for the school in NC. is a very welcome information and direction for more training. Is the School in Va. one of the best also? I would like to obtain the most training for the time and money spent.
Thanks

Harlan,
Do me a favor and consider adding a WARNING page for EP Practitioners and those looking to get into the business.

There are several well-known hacks out there that prey on people looking for EP training & work.

At least one is currently under federal investigation and I know of several others through direct and indirect means.
