Insider Tips: Career Advice from Top Professionals

SHOES:  You will want a good, quality pair of men’s dress shoes that are very comfortable, as you usually are spending long hours on your feet.  Look for quality leather that is hand-stitched, these can be found in the Men’s department of the high-end department stores. Like any footwear, your dress shoes need to fit properly. Wear them out several times before your assignment in order to break them in. Be sure to wear the appropriate socks when trying the shoes on, before purchasing. They need to be polished and maintained. Shoes are a small detail, but an important one. Dress shoes can be a little slippery on wet surfaces, but this is easily remedied by a little grip tape on the sole and at the toe, if it is a problem. Keep in mind that if it is too rough, then you will mar the finish on some waxed and polished surfaces or wood.
The more you wear hard-soled dress shoes, the more your feet will become accustomed to them. If the sole really bothers you, a shoe repair store can put in some sort of an insert (rubber or gel.) It is preferable for you to look and dress like the people you are accompanying, and that means proper dress shoes regardless of comfort. Spend the money on your shoes–it is worth it! Black is usually the best bet, as they will go with dark suits.

Home Security: The Growing Threat

For years the United States of America has been faced with a growing threat to security. Terrorists have threatened our way of life and the lives of our children. What we don’t realize is the threat to security is not just from terrorists, but peoples of our very country.

People all across the country, have fallen victim to attacks, burglaries, rape, murder, and much more. The worst threats lye in our very own homes. As our day comes to an end, we settle comfortably into our beds, we feel a sense of security, protected by our homes. What we don’t realize is that we are not safe. We are more vulnerable in our own homes then any where else. As we sleep, we have no awareness of our surroundings, to noises, or any other distractions that might catch our attention as we carry on through our day. Instead we rest comfortably, sound asleep, and assured that our children and household is safe.

For years now, we have heard time and time again of burglaries, murders in the home, rapists entering a home and victimizing the helpless. Now more then ever we must take extra care to assure our safety and security. With the implementation of wireless security systems, motion detectors, security cameras, hidden microphones, and surveillance equipment, we have established the means of taking back some of the control we have long lost to terror.

Don’t let yourself become the victim, protect and defend yourself using todays advanced technology. Rest comfortably at night knowing that you and your children are safe.

BRAINS BEFORE BRAWN

BRAINS BEFORE BRAWN:
Research and preparation aimed at identifying potential threats and contingency plans supersedes the need for big bouncer like bodyguards. Executive protection professionals receive training in skills such as defensive driving, emergency medical response and physical fitness. They know how to prepare for important events ahead of time and counter threats. And they act and dress like their protection subjects.

Overall, what’s expected is everything it takes to make the life of your client safer.
Anticipating needs is a big one— being able to look at a situation and determine what can go wrong and make sure it doesn’t; or knowing how to fix a problem once it occurs

One warning about your personal appearance: it is generally advised that Bodyguards try to maintain a look that is neat and classy.

Are you trained for the aftermath of a shooting

As a Bodyguard you are trained to protect your client. But way to often not much thought goes into covering your own butt. Now I’m not talking about being safe in the field, that’s a given. I’m talking about protecting your job and your assets. The following points are geared more toward LEO but there are a couple that are advantageous for EP’s as well particularly points number one and three
