Radio Interviews: On America’s Frontlines of Crime & War” found on Voice America which broadcast to over 130+ countries.
Harlan (Hucky) Austin speaks about Executive Protection and the importance of building a solid training foundation to ensure success. Success can be assured by setting clear goals about what your career objectives before entering the industry and take a realistic look at your skills prior to entering the field.
Top mistake as Hucky remembers it was the misunderstanding as to what the industry is about no matter how beautified it appears. An agent has to understand that the majority of the time (s) he works alone and there is not much interaction with the actual principle. The agent’s work evolves primarily in doing the advance work to prevent issues, as well as anticipate and prevent problems before or as they appear.
Hucky highlights that the Executive Protection is a very competitive industry and an agent has to make himself stand out from the crowd to increase his/her chances of getting hired. Hucky cautions individuals to change one’s mentality of entitlement of getting hired. It is important to provide a detailed introduction about one’s self and skills, as well developing excellent communication and networking skills to make yourself marketable.

Finally got around to listening to this interview where Hucky makes crucial points about the “art of networking”, the sense of entitlement that many (of all levels, in my experience and unfortunately) have, creativity in marketing oneself, the need for tenacity (so true) and online presence.
Well worth the time.
