The question of the week: An individual recently asked me at 52 was he too old for Bodyguard work? Here was my response.
Too old is a relative concept. Too old for what? It’s all about the individual and the condition he’s in. One operator and a close friend put it this way. I’m 50 and fat thanks to the poor choices I like to blame on my environment. Am I too old for protection work? – NO. Am I too fat? -YES. I don’t think a fit guy can be too old for protection work as long as all his body parts are working and he’s maintained the edge over the years. Me … well, I better step away from the refrigerator really soon.
Research and preparation aimed at identifying potential threats and contingency plans supersede age. Overall, what’s expected is everything it takes to make the life of your client safer. Anticipating needs is a big one— being able to look at a situation and determine what can go wrong and make sure it doesn’t or knowing how to fix a problem once it occurs.
Have a great week

Hi I am 61, in good shape I have done bodyguard work you can also you just need allot of training before you hit and older age, unless you are in an already guarded place there is no such thing as one guard to many things to go wrong the greatest executive protection I have seen was a guy who was 5’7″ he had 4 great big guys that worked with him they did everything he said he followed and watched it all, now remember in this job you will be the heavy but you also have to dress the part know how to be invisible and seen at the same time no attention should be brought to you only whom you are watching protecting

Hi Hucky. Just finished a book on adaptive, self-led fitness for busy people who can’t do OPS (other people’s schedules) for comprehensive, balanced, and lifelong fitness. It’s called “Farm Your Training Day: An American Dream of Sustainable Personal Fitness.” It’s on sale at Lulu.com in softcover now, and will be E-book ready on B&N, I-Books soon. It’s 276 pages, ten principles for overcoming training obstacles, and seven training dimensions that empower adaptive variety, interest, inspiration, and all around training with more choices, in more places.
