There’s a few articles out regarding how the surveillance camera system that is so extensive in the United Kingdom failed to detect the Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED) in London last week. I think its too soon to tell the what exactly happened that allowed the bad guys to get through the net. The U.K. forces and services are exceptionally professional and there’s no doubt they will get to the bottom of what happened.

The U.K.’s system of using cameras to conduct surveillance of public spaces works for the U.K. The U.K. has a long history of combating terrorism and over the course of time, the U.K. government, and the citizens of the U.K., have accepted  surveillance cameras as part of the price for security.

The following is a list of five Asian cities with a summary of EP operation information. Important factors weighed: 1) Airports, 2) Hospitals, 3) Roadways, 4) Safety and Security, 5) Hotels, and 6) Business.

HONG KONG
Doing EP operations in a new place is not an easy but Hong Kong is a great place, the airport; Hong Kong International is a regional hub with worldwide connections and is convenient and easy to get around with your client.  On the EP detail you will never feel out of place because Hong Kong has a mixture of Eastern as well as Western cultures.

Hong Kong medical facilities are well developed and are comparable to Western facilities operating at international standards. The roadways in Hong Kong are well maintained and the traffic flow on highways is usually very good. Street crime in Hong Kong is relatively low and limited to petty theft. There is a wide variety of five-star hotels on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. The pace of business is rapid and hectic, but conducted professionally, formally and punctuality.

Evaluate the roads and the routes (primary and secondary) to avoid getting the client vehicle boxed in by other vehicles. Instruct your security drivers to leave an avenue of escape open should the need arise and get away quickly if there is a transportation threat.

Announcements

Those visiting Bodyguard Careers today will notice that we’ve just released a new theme. It’s not a complete overhaul in terms of look—rather, it’s an evolution or refresh of our current design. We are hoping that these subtle changes will make it easier to navigate, and a little less cluttered. There are a few more changes coming in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned. There will probably be a few small bugs that we’ll need to iron out, but overall things are pretty stable and we are looking forward to hearing your feedback! Checklist Guidelines for Executive Protection Assignments

This checklist is designed to cover procedures required for EP details and provide fundamental knowledge in a checklist form to organize, manage and direct EP assignments in the field for timely and effective planning.

Advance Planning

  • Budget (nothing starts without a budget, its first order of business).
  • Responsible hospital (positive contact to be made). Obtain hospital contact information (name, phone #, cell phone and email).
  • Law enforcement agency (positive contact to be made). Obtain LEO contact information (name, phone #, cell phone and email).
  • Hotel security director a critical relationship to develop (positive contact to be made). Obtain Hotel security director contact information (name, phone #, cell phone and email).
  • Security planning and management for venues and meeting with senior security personnel at each location.  Obtain contact information (name, phone #, cell phone and email).
    Comprehensive threat assessments of known and potential threats (country, city, airport, hotel, venue, etc.). This is your pre-assignment intelligence.
  • Motorcade requirements (number of vehicles, type, etc.). Find and ensure limo drivers are trained and professional.
  • Ensure adequate motorcade route plans and contingency route plans are in place. Main and alternate routes (must be run multiple times).
  • Special parking set-up in advance at airport, venues, hotels, etc.
  • Development of briefing booklets for EP agents.
  • Plan for worst-case scenarios and conduct walk throughs of evacuation routes (evacuation procedures and assigned safe havens).
