With increased incidents of terrorism, hostage taking, and kidnapping, the protection of corporate executives is of extreme importance. The major focus of executive protection (EP) is keeping your clients safe to ensure “nothing happens.”
On international EP assignment especially in Third World urban environment the risk of hostage takings, hijackings, sabotages, armed assaults and bombings increase. How can EP agents prevent terrorism acts occurring within the proximity when they are elusive, surprising and violent acts?
The answer is through professional advance work. This means making sure all routes are analyzed, venues and other destinations assessed, rehearsals conducted, dry-runs are made, safe havens setup, airports (entry and departure) scouted and medical facilities examined. These activities positively contributes to a safe and secure environment for your arriving client.
You should start your advance at the airport to ensure it is capable of handling the corporate aircraft and it has the proper crash, fire, and security capabilities. Next check the route to.from the airport. This will ensure the client will travel from point A to point B safety. Next check the client hotel. The current security mandates a minimum of armed guards, closed-circuit television radio communications, positive entry control, intrusion detection systems, good protective lighting, proper hotel lock and key control, proper hotel package and mail control.
It is up to you the advance man or woman to determine the proper and safe logistics are carried out. Study the client’s itinerary, movement and conduct a risk analysis at each site. Arrive in an early and orderly manner, with your advance work days and nights organized, work planned and your security and safety objectives are clearly set for the arrival of the client.
Conduct safety, security, and health inspections to ensure all is operating at international standards. Superior advance work performance is key in this day and age. Do everything first class, keep your objectives clearly in mind and focus on the job at hand. Conduct all your work in an orderly and businesslike manner and you’ll be good-to-go.
